Per Tengstrand, Sweden, 1st Prize 1997

Per Tengstrand was a Laureate of the Paris International Long -Thibaud Competition in 1995 and won the Geneva competition in 1996 and. He was a recipient of the Anders Wall Foundation Scholarship in 1997. Most recently, he was awarded the 1999 Musician Award by The Swedish Arts Grants Committee. The Swedish-born pianist studied in Geneva, Paris and Malmö, where his teachers included Dominique Weber, Romuald Sztern, Dominique Merlet and Hans Pålsson. While at the Paris Conservatory he received the Premier Prix and the Prix Spécial du Jury, and at the Geneva Conservatory he was awarded the Prix de Virtuosité. In 2003 Per Tengstrand and China's Sha-Shan Sun won the Dranoff International two-piano competition at the Lincoln Theater in Miami Beach for their concertos of Mozart and Casadesus.

He has appeared as a soloist with the Orchestre National de France (Paris), Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lille, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Singapore Symphony, Swedish Radio Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic and Osaka Philharmonic. During the 1999-2000 season, Mr. Tengstrand performed Beethoven's Concerto No. 5 (Emperor) with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under Jesus Lopez-Cobos; and also with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under Neeme Järvi. In the 2000-2001 season Tengstrand performed the Grieg Concerto with the Waterbury (CT) Symphony under Leif Bjaland, followed by Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra under Richard Westerfield and he toured and recorded with the Camerata Roman Orchestra, and appeared in performances with the Malmö Symphony, Gothenburg Symphony, and French Radio Orchestra.

In the 1999-2000 season Mr. Tengstrand received critical acclaim for his New York City recital debut at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall. He also performed in recital at such prestigious venues as Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Tokyo's Suntory Hall, Zürich's Tonhalle, Paris' Salle Gaveau and the Nice Operahouse. In the 2000-2001 season Mr. Tengstrand made his Kennedy Center debut, followed by a 20-city recital tour in the Midwest. He performed the Dvorák Piano Quintet with the Chilingirian Quartet in Chicago and in East Lansing's Michigan State University series. Mr. Tengstrand also returned to Cleveland for a recital under the auspice of the Cleveland Chamber Music Society. More recently he has given recitals in Geneva, Bergen, Bordeaux, Montpellier Festival, and the Chopin Festival in Poland; and performed in London's Wigmore Hall with the Chilingirian Quartet.

Mr. Tengstrand's most recent CD recording is on Azica Records and includes music of Grieg, Liszt and Chopin. He has two other CD's to his credit.

Mr. Tengstrand received his first lessons from his mother and made his first public appearance when he was seven years old. Since then he has acquired a repertoire that spans from Bach to contemporary music and has become the dedicatee of a number of new pieces.
