Amir Katz, Israel, 1st Prize, 1993
Born in 1973 in Israel, Amir Katz began piano lessons at the age of 11 with Hanna Shalgi.
After winning several national competitions he received various scholarships, including the AICF and German Academic Exchange scholarships to further studies in Europe. His teachers have included Sulamita Aronovsky, Dimitry Bashkirov and Elisso Wirssaladze; at the International Piano Foundation in Lake Como, he had lessons with Leon Fleisher, Fou Tīsong, Karl Ulrich Schnabel and Murray Perahia
In addition to the Cleveland Competition, Mr. Katz won the 1st prize in the Maria Canals in Barcelona, and in the Viotti Valsesia in Italy. In Israel he has given concerto performances with the Haifa Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Israel Camerata and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra.
He also performed with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Symphony of Princeton, Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, the Lille Philharmonic Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2003 he made his debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta, and toured Spain with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Katz has given recitals in Europe, Japan, China and the USA, including the Chatlet in Paris, Tonhalle in Zurich, Palau de la Musica in Barcelona, Gasteig in Munich and the Lincoln Center in New York. He has also broadcast on radio and television.
