Thierry Huillet, France, 1st prize, 1987

Thierry Huillet began his studies at the age of 15 at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música de Parí with Pierre Sancan where he received first prize in 1983. He attended master classes under Germaine Mounier in Paris. Other teachers have included Paul Barura-Skoda, Leon Fleisher and Gyorgy Sandor.

In addition to the First Prize with the Casadesus International Piano Competition he won fourth prize at the Tokyo International Competition in 1989, and prizes at the Busoni International Competition in 1985 and 1994.

He debuted in Paris, at the Théatre du Chatelet, and at the Salle Gaveau. He has appeared with the Capitole Orcheste Toulouse, Filarmónica de Lille, Ensemble Orchestral de París, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic, Chamber Symphony of Princeton, RAI Torino and the Radio Suisse Romande, Radio France, Rumanian Radio, among others. He has appeared in recitals and master classes in France, the United States, Japan, Italy, Austria, Malaysia and Rumania, and made numerous recordings including works of Rachmaninov, Ravel, Liszt, Bach, and Enesco.

He and his violinist partner Clare Cernat have performed extensively throughout Europe as well as internationally.
